Lipton for Lebanon

In September of 2021 I was approached by a friend who knew of someone that needed a website created for their campaign. This being one of my first web design freelance projects, it was an amazing learning experience. The process of this project has opened my eyes to the possibilities of freelance and how to keep a positive client-designer relationship.

First Meeting

My client was very informative and responsive from the very first meeting. She was able to let me in on what her plans are for running for city council, and how she was going to do these things. Since I am not from this town, I was very curious as to what the politics were like and she had all the info on that. Once I felt comfortable with understanding the situation, we went through several opportunities for what we could use as a website builder. The reason I decided to go with a website builder was that the client wanted direct access to the site if she wanted to make any changes herself, as well as add additional posts to a blog. After doing some research I put together some pros and cons to the most popular site builders and went through this with her in our first meeting. We ended up going with Wix since that checked off all the boxes as to what she wanted in her website. Now that we had our site picked out, it was time to go through potential features she wanted to include with her site. The features I suggested to her were also provided through research on successful politician’s websites. We wrapped up the first meeting with a timeline and that I’ll be in touch with updates along the way.

Beginning Phase

The website needed to be done sooner than later, so in my free time outside of my day-to-day I would put in time to make some good progress. Starting out building the website my main focus was to get the layout how we envisioned it. There was no real focus on color scheme, typography, or imagery in this beginning stage. Once the client was happy with the navigation of the site, it was time to focus on making it pretty.

We kept a color scheme that reflects the color scheme for the U.S. since this seemed to be the best fit for a campaign. The typography was to be kept simple and professional as this was specified by the client. The content across the site was gathered from her Facebook page, which had plenty of content for blog posts and imagery. It was about a week into the project at this point and the client was happy with the direction we were taking.

Final Touch

The final touches of the project was making sure that the site was set up correctly for mobile users and can be found using SEO. This part was very meticulous but very important as to having her site be accessible by all.

We had a final meeting together to go over any questions she had for me and get the official domain set up as well. The site was up and running in two weeks from the start date, and my client was extremely happy with the results.
